Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster

From The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams — considered the best drink in existence. According to the Guide, its effect is 'like having your brains smashed out by a slice of lemon wrapped round a large gold brick.' Invented by Zaphod Beeblebrox. Never drink more than two. Don't panic, and always know where your towel is.

Serves1 cocktail

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz vodka (Ol' Janx Spirit)
  • 1 1/2 oz navy-strength gin (Arcturan Mega-gin)
  • 1/4 oz creme de menthe (Qualactin Hypermint extract)
  • 3 drops saline solution (Santraginean seawater)
  • 1 sugar cube with 1 dash spicy bitters (tooth of an Algolian Suntiger)
  • 1/2 tsp citric acid (Zamphuor)
  • 1 green olive
  • Lemon zest from 2 lemons

Instructions

  1. 1. Grab your towel.
  2. 2. Add vodka, gin, saline, and lemon zest to a shaker with ice.
  3. 3. Shake for 15 seconds.
  4. 4. Strain into a mixing glass. Add creme de menthe.
  5. 5. Dash the sugar cube with spicy bitters and drop in.
  6. 6. Stir with ice for 30 seconds.
  7. 7. Sprinkle citric acid on top.
  8. 8. Skewer the olive on a cocktail pick and rest on the rim.
  9. 9. Drink very carefully. Don't panic.
