Sidecar

A classic brandy cocktail from Prohibition-era Paris — brandy, Cointreau, and lemon juice, served in a sugar-rimmed glass. The brandy cousin of the Margarita. Supposedly invented at Harry's Bar in Paris.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz cognac (or brandy)
  • 3/4 oz Cointreau
  • 3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
  • Sugar for rim
  • Orange twist for garnish

Instructions

  1. 1. Sugar the rim of a coupe glass: rub an orange slice around the rim, then dip in sugar.
  2. 2. Add cognac, Cointreau, and lemon juice to a shaker with ice.
  3. 3. Shake for 15 seconds.
  4. 4. Strain into the sugar-rimmed coupe.
  5. 5. Garnish with an orange twist.
