Jack Rose

A classic Prohibition-era cocktail — applejack, grenadine, and lemon juice. One of the six basic cocktails in David Embury's 1948 book. Featured in The Catcher in the Rye as Holden Caulfield's drink.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz applejack (Laird's)
  • 1/2 oz grenadine
  • 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
  • Apple slice for garnish

Instructions

  1. 1. Add applejack, grenadine, and lemon juice to a shaker with ice.
  2. 2. Shake for 15 seconds.
  3. 3. Strain into a chilled coupe glass.
  4. 4. Garnish with an apple slice.
