Classic Caramel Apples
The iconic Halloween treat. Tart Granny Smith apples dipped in golden, chewy caramel and rolled in your favorite toppings — crushed nuts, mini M&Ms, crushed Oreos, or sprinkles. A little messy to make but worth every sticky finger.

Ingredients
- 6 large Granny Smith apples (room temperature)
- 6 wooden craft sticks
- 1 (14-oz) bag soft caramels, unwrapped
- 2 tbsp heavy cream or whole milk
- Optional toppings: chopped peanuts, crushed Oreos, mini M&Ms, sprinkles, crushed pretzels, shredded coconut
Instructions
- 1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Quickly dip each apple for 10 seconds to remove the wax coating. Transfer to an ice bath for 2 minutes, then dry completely — any moisture will stop the caramel from sticking.
- 2. Remove stems and insert a craft stick firmly into the top of each apple, pushing about 3/4 of the way down. Place apples in the fridge to chill.
- 3. Put toppings in shallow bowls for dipping.
- 4. Place caramels and cream in a microwave-safe measuring cup or bowl. Microwave at 50% power in 30-second increments, stirring each time, until smooth and pourable. Let cool 1 minute.
- 5. Holding by the stick, dip each apple into the caramel, spinning to coat. Lift out and let excess drip off, tapping gently against the bowl.
- 6. Immediately roll the apple in your chosen toppings while the caramel is still warm.
- 7. Place on greased wax paper or parchment. Refrigerate at least 30 minutes to set.
- 8. Best eaten within 2-3 days. Let sit at room temperature 15 minutes before serving so the caramel softens slightly.
